The Canon A-200 personal computer was manufactured in four versions: • Model M1: Equipped with a monochrome display board and one floppy disk drive. • Model M2: Similar to Model M1 but featured two floppy disk drives. • Model C1: Included a color display board and one floppy disk drive. • Model C2: The top-tier model, combining a color display board with two floppy disk drives. The unit in this collection is a Canon A-200 Model M2 (dual disk drives with a monochrome display), paired with the Canon A-2001 monochrome display monitor. Canon A-200 personal computers were produced from 1984 to 1988 in Japan by Canon Inc. The Canon A-200 is powered by a 16-bit 8086 microprocessor operating at a clock speed of 4.77 MHz. It comes standard with 256 KB of RAM (Random Access Memory), expandable up to 512 KB. Additionally, it includes 16 KB of system ROM (Read-Only Memory) and 4 KB of video RAM. The A-200 features two 5¼ double-sided, double-density floppy disk drives, an RS-232C serial interface (DB-25 male), and a printer interface (DB-25 female). It operates on the MS-DOS version 2.11 operating system and comes pre-installed with GW-BASIC 2.02. This particular machine was sold on 15 July 1987 by the Finnish Canon dealer Oy Canon Ab in Helsinki. Around 1995, it was donated as humanitarian aid to a middle school in the small town of Otepää, Estonia. By that time, the computer was already considered obsolete and found little practical use in the school. Consequently, it was given to a school teacher, who took it home for their children to play with. The only two games available on the computer were BASIC sample games: GORILLA.BAS and NIBBLES.BAS. The computer remained unused for several years, gradually gaining value as a collectible vintage computer. Remarkably, the machine is still in working condition today.
