Astra Modell L | ||||
|
The Astra model L is a 10-key, Dalton-type keyboard, motor- or handcrank-operated, printing adding machine manufactured in the 1930s by Astrawerke AG in Chemnitz, Germany. The machine is complete and in working order. The case has been painted over with black paint at some point – unfortunately, also the original logo on both sides were covered with black paint. Now original logos are cleaned and reveiled again from the black paint. After the World War II, the Astrawerke AG factory found itself in the eastern part of Germany, occupied by Soviet forces. The factory was nationalized as a state-owned enterprise (V.E.B.) in 1948. In 1954, the Chemnitz plant was renamed to V.E.B. Buchhaltungsmaschinenwerk Karl-Marx-Stadt (Sovietized name of Chemnitz). In 1959, a new brand name, Ascota was introduced because of the legal dispute with John Greve, the founder of Astrawerke AG. From 1969, the factory was part of the Zentronik combine (VEB Kombinat Zentronik) and later, in 1978, incorporated to the Robotron combine (VEB Kombinat Robotron). Registers: 10 x 10 Weight: 14,5kg.
