Addo X Mod. 341. | ||||
|
A Swedish-made mechanical calculator, Addo X, was manufactured from 1938 to 1966 (with modifications) by Ab Addo in Malmö. Current machine is in working condition. It has a Finnish dealer label in front of the shell – Merso, Helsinki-Helsingfors. The machine was recovered from a scrapyard in the early 2000s and was acquired recently to my collection from Viljandi. The machine was most probably sent to Estonia as humanitarian aid in the beginning of the 1990s. The reason to believe this, is because there weren't much or any western tech products available in Soviet Estonia. In the beginning of the 1990s it was very common for Swedes and Finns to send some old "scrap" to post-communist neighbors. Probably this machine wasn't considered a true collectible piece at that time. Weight: 12,5kg Dimensions: 39 x 22 x 23 (H) cm.

Did you know ...? Aktiebolaget Addo (AB Addo), founded in 1918, was an engineering company based in Malmö, Sweden. The company manufactured various types of office machines. Addo Ab was founded by Swedish dentist Hugo Agrell, who was later joined by his three sons, Gunnar, Göran, and Trygve. While Gunnar and Göran helped their father in Malmö, Trygve Agrell was sent to the United States in 1950 to establish and manage Addo Machine Co., Inc. in New York. The company expanded rapidly, having its factories in Brazil and in the UK, in addition to the six factories in Sweden. Production was exported to 100 countries worldwide. In 1966, Addo AB was incorporated into its competitor Facit AB (AB Åtvidabergs Industrier), where it remained as a subsidiary until the early 1980s. Addo products consisted mainly of adding machines, calculators, accounting machines, and data processing equipment. Source: Source: Büromarkt. Internationale Bürofachzeitschrift, 1956, Nr. 4
