Italian company Serio S.A. was founded in 1932 and began manufacturing typewriters under the brand name Everest. The factory was located in the city of Crema, Northern Italy. In 1935, Serio S.A. acquired Sozzi-Inzadi S.A., a Milan-based company that produced adding-listing machines. Serio continued to manufacture these machines under the brand name Alfa-Everest until World War II. In 1947, the new Z-series was launched, and Everest became the sole brand name of Serio S.A. The Z5 model was produced between 1953 and 1960. It was a 10-key keyboard, crank-operated calculator capable of performing the four basic mathematical operations. It had a separate division key next to the numeric keyboard, which shifted the carriage all the way to the left for entering the dividend. The Everest Z5 featured a 13-digit main register on the top left, an 8-digit counter on the top right, and a moving 9-digit input register at the front. The present machine bears a Finnish reseller tag on the front case: Tampereen Konttorikone Oy – located in Tampere, Finland. This office supplies company was established in 1944 and still operates in the same location in Tampere. In 1967, Olivetti acquired control of Serio S.A. Two years later, in 1969, Serio was merged into Olivetti, and the Everest brand ceased to exist.
