Triumphator CRN1

The Triumphator was a German manufacturer of mechanical calculators located in Mölkau, Saxony (near Leipzig). Triumphator concentrated on the pinion wheel principle and was one of the oldest and most successful German manufacturers. The production of mechanical calculators began in 1903 and ended in 1963.

The factory was founded in 1900 as Leipziger Röhrenwerke GmbH, manufacturing vacuum tubes. In 1903 the company switched to the production of calculating machines. A year later, the Triumphator brand name was introduced. A few years later, in 1907, the factory was renamed Triumphator Rechenmaschinenfabrik GmbH.

After WWII, Leipzig became one of the major cities of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). In 1948, the Triumphatorwerk GmbH was nationalized and transformed into the public-owned enterprise V.E.B. Triumphator-Werk Rechenmaschinenfabrik.

Starting from 1963, all production of Triumphator mechanical calculators was discontinued. Instead, the factory started to manufacture components for the Ascota 170 accounting machine manufactured by VEB Buchungsmaschinenwerk Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1969, the Triumphator factory was fully incorporated into the VEB Buchungsmaschinenwerk Karl-Marx-Stadt as factory number 3 (Werk 3 Mölkau), which was part of Kombinat Zentronik and later Kombinat Robotron.

The Triumphator CRN1 is an updated version of the Triumphator C-series calculator, manufactured from 1952 to 1958. This machine was purchased from the local antiques fair in 2016 for 30 euros.

The machine has an office supply retailer sticker on the front: Görling & Beil, Büromachinen * Bürobedurf, Magdeburg, Letterstraße 1. In the back it has an inventory label of Bezirksfilmdirektion. Magdeburg.
