VK-1 is a 10-key (Dalton keyboard) handcrank-operated mechanical calculator. The mechanism is based on an inverted Odhner's pinwheel-type calculator (moving setting register instead of the moving result/revolution carriage). The VK-1 is a clone of Swedish Facit TK (1936-1954); the "Soviet Facit" was manufactured from 1951 to the late 1970s in Schetmash factory. This machine's history leads back to the city of Tartu, Estonia. In the Soviet times, it worked in the Tartu city council, more precisely, in the accounting department of Tartu City Council Deputies Executive Committee (Tartu linna Rahvasaadikute Nõukogu Täitvkomitee (RSN TK)).
